How do you tell the difference between two evils? One might have a mustache..
Covering Nazis and Nazi Germany is a topic that has long been done to death; but in our current political situation in the United States - the lessons we were supposed to have learned from WWII are so much more relevant now than ever.
For today's history lesson: the Gestapo and its actions, who they were, what they did and how ICE might be following in their footsteps. To start with, the Gestapo were the Nazi's secret police force; conducting surveillance on perceived threats, brutalizing citizens and orchestrating deportations.

Once Hitler rose to power in Germany(Then the Weimar Republic) transformed the Political Police, who were tasked with controlling political violence and extremism under their Constitutional values(freedom of speech, freedom of press and equality before the law). These guidelines for the Political Police made sure they were under scrutiny and had to abide by law and morality when acting upon their duty. The abrupt change from the Political Police to the Gestapo meant that an institution originally meant to protect its people, became something violently evil overnight.
Now how do you take a police force binded by the Constitution of the Weimar Republic, and force it into nazism? Hitler and his cronies had two obstacles before them to introduce Nazism to the police forces:
Separated police forces who did not answer to Hitler as chancellor, they were decentralized and subjugated to state and local governments
The Constitution had legal protections and remained in effect.
This is one of the ways Hitler destroyed the Constitution, from the Holocaust Museum:
Beginning in February 1933, the Nazi regime used emergency decrees to transform Germany. These decrees freed the political police from legal and constitutional limitations. The most important of these was the Reichstag Fire Decree. It was issued on February 28, 1933. This decree suspended individual rights and legal protections, such as the right to privacy. This made it easier for the police to investigate, interrogate, and arrest political opponents. Police could now read private mail, secretly listen to telephone calls, and search homes without warrants.)
All of this effort from the Nazis was to establish a police force that only answered to Nazi leadership.
Anyway, since you have a bit of history of the founding of the Gestapo, we'll start introducing their actions, and why we should all be concerned about Trump's ICE.
One of the main things the Gestapo were meant, and encouraged to do was deport civilians to concentration camps. Being under Schutzhaft, a kind of protective custody; meaning that they had ultimate power to do as they pleased - this allowed them to act on their own and open up any kind of sadism that they wanted to.
Any wrong word, criticism, joke, anything that could be seen as a potential slight to the Nazi party, meant deportation, violent interrogation, and intensive surveillance that would usually end up in being brutalized.
How does this relate to our current situation under the Trump administration? Well, those of you who might have a more keen eye, saw some important similarities. Firstly, the purpose of ICE is, or was to investigate immigrants who could be committing crimes and were here illegally. ICE's dominion was mainly concentrated in States closer to the Mexican border and near Florida. For example, until recently, ICE was not allowed to conduct investigations in Chicago, it was a Sanctuary City; which meant that anyone could come to Chicago and build a life, free from fears of deportation or violation of human rights.
Of course, in recent times - this is no longer true. ICE has creeped into Chicago, and various other Sanctuary Cities and States, there is no safe space left in the United States.
If children with cancer will get deported, then where will it end?
To say this is a major concern of our would be a vast understatement.
Some of you may have seen the recent news surrounding the unlawful deportation of US citizens(https://www.newsweek.com/republicans-vote-against-ice-deporting-us-citizens-2066548), in general and for those who speak out, and this is ultimately one of main deciding factors in the Nazification of ICE and the US Police Force.
"What has ICE been doing to be compared to Nazism and the Gestapo?"
In the video we've embedded above, it briefly covers the deportation of a 4-year-old with cancer. Other videos show plainclothes ICE "officers" ripping civilians off the streets without warrants, destroying cars, homes, and tearing families apart. Being on social media right now is quite heavy, and it's increasingly difficult to ignore the atrocities being committed locally. When immigrants legally gain citizenship, and even that isn't enough to be protected, what would stop ICE from becoming the Gestapo? We've already passed the point of no return - when our immigrants who try to gain citizenship legally get detained during a citizenship interview; what's the point of the existence of the US?
"Where are they sending our immigrants and citizens to?"
In the beginning of the Trump administration, they attempted to send all detainees to Guantanamo Bay in Cuba, however Cuba refused to accept the civilians; although the US just dropped them off and forced the civilians into tents. The illegal prison of Guantanamo Bay is a different story for a separate article, however it plays an important role in our current situation - one of the first International Institutions that stood up to Trump and his idiocy. Unfortunately, Cuba couldn't fight too hard due to the circumstances that the US forced upon Cuba in form of sanctions, starvation of resources and threat of invasion.
The true concentration camp that Trump is sending our civilians to (besides Guantanamo Bay in Cuba) is the mega-prison in El Salvador, heralded by Nayib Bukele as an idol for his reign in El Salvador; has been the main point of focus in Trump's process of deportation and eventual extermination.
The path to Nazism has been started, and it will not stop until people stand up. In upcoming articles we'll be covering El Salvador, Guantanamo Bay and other concerns.
